In this horrible heat wave we've been under, each day I am becoming more eager for my favorite season of all: Fall. Then, I stop and remember that once autumn is here, school will be in full swing, the boys will be going to preschool & daycare, and Parker will be entering the next phase of babyhood - sitting up, baby food, etc. and Nolan will be halfway to age 5, a birthday that I think is going to be a little harder than the others because it signifies that he'll be entering
I wasn't intending on tonight's post to be this long, but apparently it's weighing heavy on my heart. Back to the intention of this post. Parker weighed in at 12 lbs 8 oz! He's still in the 50th percentile working toward the 60th. He is a long boy, too...he was in the 75th percentile for height at 24 inches. Everything went well, he received his 2 shots and his oral dose of the rotovirus vaccination. As much as it breaks my heart watching him get his shots (he's always in the happiest of moods and smiling and then before he knows it he's being stuck & crying), it would break my heart so much more if he were to ever get something from not being vaccinated. (Just overdue on my reminder on how important I believe vaccinations are...as a teacher, as a mother, in general).
On Monday, he went for his upper GI at Cardinal Glennon. I had been dreading this - and not even so much for the procedure itself, but more for the fact that he wasn't going to be able to eat for 4 hours prior to testing since he's very consistent every 2 hour eater! However, prayers must have been answered. He's been waking once a night. Sunday night was different, he was up every 2 hours to eat! Brian commented that it must have been God's way of filling him up! So, he had his last feeding at 4:15 a.m., he slept until 7, and then we loaded him in his seat and immediately took off in the car hoping he'd sleep...and it worked. He did. He slept the whole way there, he slept when we parked, he slept on the way in, and he slept in the waiting room! He slept all the way until a couple mins before they came to get him (8:40ish). Brian went back with him while Nolan and I sat in the waiting room. Brian said he sucked the yucky white stuff right down with no problems and smiled and coo'd at the ladies during the process. At 9:00 he came back to the waiting room in a gown that I never wanted to see again after our last stay there. He had to wait 20 mins for one more xray and then we'd be free to go and he'd be free to eat. That was the only time he was really fussy, and I can't blame him as he must have been so hungry and confused about why he wasn't being fed!
The dr that performed the series said she could see his organs were all great, but she did notice a small spasm at the end of his stomach which she thought may be the culprit. She thought if it was, then it could most likely be treated with medication. We shall see...I'm hoping to hear from the dr. soon as the last couple of days he's been throwing up a lot more than usual.
In the meantime, I'm just in complete awe of my amazingly beautiful boys and trying to slow down time. A friend and co-worker of mine gave me this saying in a frame and it sits on a shelf in Parker's room. I can't help but read it daily and try to apply it each and every day:
"Cleaning and scrubbing
will wait till tomorrow,
but children grow up,

as I've learned to my sorrow.
So quiet down, cobwebs.
Dust Go To Sleep.
I'm rocking my baby...
and babies don't keep."
