Today, we walked back into the doors of Cardinal Glennon...it was crazy to think that it's already been 49 days since we left. This time was much, much easier knowing how comfortable we felt with the doctors and staff there and knowing that we were just coming to see a pediatric GI regarding reflux issues. We are still so impressed with the care that Parker received there. We didn't have one negative experience with a single staff member and today we felt the same. The appointment was for Parker, yet every nurse, secretary, doctor, phlebotomist gave just as much attention to Nolan by offering him goodies and trying to get him to smile.
His appointment went well, the GI thinks he looks excellent and is in overall good health (although one of the very first things he commented on when examining him was the caving of his chest cavity when he breathes). He isn't overly concerned with this reflux issues especially since he's still growing, still eating, and high on his list - breastfed. He told us numerous times not to let anyone try to convince us to go to any type of formula - gentle-ease or the expensive sensitive brands. Which I knew, yet was comforted by and glad that he was on the same page as our pediatrician and us. I was also super excited that he is pretty confident that we aren't dealing with any type of milk protein allergy, etc. Yay!
Since the meds aren't doing a whole lot of good, he said it was up to us if we wanted to continue or not. At this point, they won't cause any harm, but since we aren't seeing improvements his view is why take a medication? I loved that answer, too. He did tell us that this will probably peak in the next month or two and then will gradually improve (upon sitting up, crawling, etc.). They did blood work today and Parker will have to have an upper GI series done in a couple weeks at Cardinal Glennon. The only kicker with that is that he cannot nurse or have a bottle for 4 hours prior....YIKES. This kids LOVES to eat and has strictly stuck to his 4 ounces every 2 hours schedule. This might not be pretty and I may not have any hair left after driving over their when he's going to be that hungry! Wish us luck and go ahead and start sending up some prayers for that one now :)
Oh yeah, and...take THAT reflux!
Hate to hear you went back, but glad to hear you are having such a good experience with Cardinal Glennon. We are so lucky to live next to such awesome children's hospitals. I'll be saying a prayer for Parker and for you... hope everything goes smoothly and you can figure out what's going on.
