On Thursday night, Nolan came home from the sitter's in an unusual mood. It's very rare for him to want to sit - on someone's lap or alone. Well, he did nothing, but sit on my lap and cry for 3 hours. He's typically a very happy baby, so I knew something was wrong. He'd had a cold all week, and I was concerned about his breathing a couple of times, but during that period he was acting just fine. Thurs. night was a different story. He was pulling on his ear saying "eawwwr". So automatically I figured we were in for an infection. Brian took him to the dr. Friday (which he was in a MUCH better mood from the moment he woke up). Turns out he has a pretty bad ear infection and bronchialitis with wheezing. So, he was put on Augmentin for the ear and given an inhaler with spacer for the wheezing. I'm not sure if you're familiar with Augmentin, but it was nothing short of a nightmare for us. He threw up an hour or so after taking it Friday. I called Paige to see if Tyler had any problems on it since they are experienced "ear-infectioners". She warned me of the major problems that would occur from his other end. Sure enough, yesterday was full of problems...literally. We ended up going to a b-day party at the YMCA because he had been in a wonderful mood. Of course at the party is where these occurrences had to happen. Did I mention he also vomited there??? And, of course, it had to be after we were finished playing and everyone was enjoying cupcakes! He's still acting fine, but that medicine is a disaster. I called the exchange and they prescribed Suprax for him, which he was just given his first dose this a.m. He got sick again last night at 3:00 a.m. in his crib, so he had a bath at 3 in the morning, then slept with me (he slept while I feared being thrown up on). So far so good with this medicine, but we'll see. For future reference he is not to be put on Augmentin because his stomach cannot tolerate per dr's orders. This is suppose to be somewhat rough on the tummy, too...so we'll see. As for now, we're spending the remainder of our long weekend with a welted bottom, and BRAT diet to help the medicine stay down. Keep your fingers crossed!
Oh yeah...and Nolan's up a pound since 18 months...he's now at a whopping 22 lbs. My little Munchkin.
Hey Mandy, same thing happened to Avery. She had bronchiolitis, the flu, and an ear infection when she was 4 months. We did breathing treatments w/a nebulizer and also the evil Augmentin. Same story - puke everywhere. I think we ended up staying on it, but giving it in smaller doses and mixing w/formula and cereal. What a nightmare. Good luck.... sounds like no fun.
